    One-Day Awareness Program for Anganwadi Workers on Indian Sign Language

    A one-day awareness program on Indian Sign Language was organized on 28th August 2025, Thursday, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Varanasi, under the administrative control of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (Divyangjan), New Delhi, functioning under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

    This program was organized in collaboration with the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC), New Delhi and the District Administration, Varanasi, specifically aimed at Anganwadi workers to raise awareness about Indian Sign Language (ISL).

    The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Ramesh Kumar, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Kashi Vidyapeeth, Government of Uttar Pradesh. He was warmly welcomed by Mr. Ashish Kumar Jha, Director, CRC Varanasi.

    In his address, Mr. Ashish Kumar Jha, Director, CRC Varanasi, highlighted that such programs not only empower Anganwadi workers and staff, but also serve as a significant step toward inclusive development in society.

    From ISLRTC New Delhi, Mr. Zaid Baig and Mrs. Anu Gautam, both Sign Language Trainers, introduced the participants to the importance, usage, and practical application of Indian Sign Language.

    More than 60 Anganwadi workers, including supervisors from Kashi Vidyapeeth, actively participated in the training. The session focused on equipping them to communicate effectively with persons with disabilities, especially children with hearing impairments and their families.

    The program was conducted by Mrs. Tripti Ojha, Assistant Professor, Speech and Hearing, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Namo Narayan Pathak, Assistant Professor, Special Education, CRC Varanasi.
